A Week With Big Bass Fishin

I didn't expect much from Big Bass Fishin. On the store page it looks like a hundred other casual games, all bright water and big fish. So I installed it, played for ten minutes, and put it down. Then I picked it up again on the bus the next morning, and again the morning after that.

The core loop is tiny. You pick a spot, cast, wait for a bite, and then fight the fish by holding tension in the right band. What makes it stick is how much control you have over that fight. Ease off at the right moment and a big catch that felt impossible suddenly comes in.

My advice for new players is to slow down. The instinct is to yank the line the moment something bites, and that's how you lose your best fish. Watch the tension bar, feed it in small pulses, and let the fish tire itself out.

It's not a deep game and it never pretends to be. But as a calm five-minute break, Big Bass Fishin does exactly what it sets out to do, and does it with more polish than I expected.
